The “Three Tawhids”
Posted on March 3, 2014 by Khalid Aboulela
Question:
Dear Shaykh Jibril,
As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! Can you tell me the details of the “Three Tawhids” much flouted by the neo-Salafi sect. I remember reading somewhere that they use these in order to justify labeling other Muslims as mushriks. Do these “Tawhids” have any basis in traditional Sunni Islam, and should we refrain from citing this doctrine?
May Allah bless your effort!
Answer:
Assalamu alaikum,
This method of explaining Tawhid was originally authored by Ibn Taymiyyah and used by his disciples after him. No one before that explained Tawhid in that way. Based on my readings it seems as a simplified method of explaining the complex science of Tawhid for the masses. Unfortunately it is now being used to make takfir and create discord among Muslims because of it’s simplicity and that any one can discuss it.
The science of Tawhid is a difficult science to study and comprehend but using this method makes non-scholars appear as if they are experts.
So we recommend staying away from such teachings and avoiding arguments and discussions.
And Allah and His Prophet know best.
