PETALING JAYA - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's daughter Nooryana Najwa said that her father's new position as an Opposition MP is a new experience and not a "downgrade".

"Today will be the first time in our country's history that an ex-PM will sit in the opposition bloc," said Nooryana on her Instagram page on Monday (July 16).

"If in his shoes, some may find this new role a "downgrade". But not this man. This is merely a new experience for him," she said.

Today will be the first time in our country’s history that an ex-PM will sit on the opposition bloc. If in his shoes, some may find this new role a “downgrade”....but, not this man. This is merely a new experience for him - ever ready to collectively solve.....

Nooryana said that as an Opposition MP, her father is "ever ready" to collectively solve problems, share knowledge and expertise.

Most importantly, Nooryana said that her father will provide checks and balances in his new role.

"As a responsible Opposition member, he will continue to give his all for the betterment of all Malaysians to ensure no one is left behind," she said.

"May Allah remove the obstacles in my father's path and that of his friends in the days to come," she added.

Najib retained his Pekan Parliamentary seat and was sworn in as a lawmaker on Monday.

The former premier resigned as the Barisan Nasional chairperson and the Umno president after the coalition lost in the May 9 general election.

Meanwhile, Najib in a Facebook post on Monday said that he will continue to speak out for the people as an Opposition member.

"It is the intention of the opposition and I to speak out for the rakyat and demand that Pakatan Harapan (PH) honours its manifesto promises as a promise is a promise," said Najib.

"The rakyat should not be short-changed and simply accept whatever excuses that the PH government makes up over the next five years," he said.

Najib said that when he was the prime minister and the Barisan chairman, they had planned their Barisan manifesto "very carefully", as he intended to deliver each and every promise.

"Perhaps we were too careful to only promise whatever we can deliver? Would I have done differently? No."
