If Pakatan win the next general election, Malaysia will have the record of having the oldest prime minister in the world, says Vell Paari
KUALA LUMPUR: MIC leader S Vell Paari today mocked Pakatan Harapan for relying on veteran and aging politician Dr Mahathir Mohamad to lead them in government if they win GE14.
“I find it astonishing that Pakatan Harapan does not have any other leaders to chose as the nominated prime minister and has to resort to announcing a 93-year-old man as their candidate,” he told Berita Daily.
“I also find it shocking that people like Lim Kit Siang could agree for Mahathir to be Pakatan’s nominated candidate for the prime minister post when only a few years ago Kit Siang had gone on record saying that Malaysia’s rot started during Mahathir’s 22-year tenure,” he added.
He said that Pakatan must have been “really desperate” to have agreed to make Mahathir as their PM candidate.
He added that he also sympathised with all hardcore supporters of PKR, especially those who initiated and created the reformasi movement in 1998 after Anwar Ibrahim was sacked as the deputy prime minister.
“Some of them were arrested, and also put behind bars under ISA.Now it seems that all their struggle to ‘Free Anwar’ is now a waste of time.”
He further said that if Pakatan won the next general election, Malaysia would have the record of having the oldest prime minister in the world.
“This itself is a world record. This is so since Mahathir’s best friend, Robert Mugabe, who is also 93-years-old was just removed as the president of Zimbabwe.”
Vell Paari also had a word of advice for the young leaders in Pakatan.
“Stay strong as I know most of you had joined the opposition due to your disagreement with Mahathir, especially after the reformasi movement. Now, he is your boss. Life is sure cruel sometimes.”
