Give PH ministers more time, and we can call Malaysia “Lalaland”

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told Malaysians today to give Pakatan Harapan ministers more time to administer the country properly as many of them are, according to him, rookies.

Below is a list of key ministers and their resumes that demonstrates just why this makes no sense whatsoever.

That makes no sense whatsoever given that many of those occupying key portfolios pivotal to the well being of the country and its economy have vast experiences in leadership positions.

Mahathir, for instance, led government for a good 22 years and served also as Deputy Prime Minister (1976 – 1981), Minister of Finance (1998 – 1999 and 2001 – 2003), Minister of Home Affairs (1986 – 1999), Minister of Defence (1981 – 1986), Minister of Trade and Industry (1978- 1981) and Minister of Education (1974 – 1977).

His deputy, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, is closely advised by her husband, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who himself served as Deputy Prime Minister (1993- 1998), Minister of Finance (1991 – 1998), Minister of Education (1986 – 1991), Minister of Agriculture (1984 – 1986) and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (1983 – 1984).

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, now serving as Minister of Home Affairs, served previously as Deputy Prime Minister (2009 – 2015), Minister of Education (2013 – 2015), Minister of International Trade and Industry (2008 – 2009), Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (2004 – 2007), Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumerism (1999 – 2003) and Minister of Youth and Sports (1995 – 1999).

Muhyiddin, who worked behind Najib’s back to sabotage UMNO, also served as the Menteri Besar of Johor for a good ten years from 1986 – 1995, meaning, he knows precisely how to run a government.

The same can also be said of Lim Guan Eng, our current Minister of Finance, who served as Chief Minister of Penang from 2008 – 20018.

Initially, Mahathir praised Guan Eng by telling reporters that the latter was handpicked for the Finance portfolio due to his “excellent performance in Penang” and his role in “reducing the state’s debt.”

However, the Prime Minister contradicted himself later by telling newsmen that the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) was needed as “Guan Eng is new and needs time to understand his job properly.”

Incidentally, the CEP itself – which, for all intents and purposes, is the ‘real’ Ministry of Finance – comprises a former Bank Negara Governor and a former Minister of Finance.

It’s chair, Tan Sri Daim Zainuddin, held the finance portfolio from 1984 to 1991 and was instrumental in rationalising and restructuring the Malaysian Finance scene.

Zeti, on the other hand, was the Governor of Malaysia’s central bank from 2000 to 2016 and served under three Prime Ministers – Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, and not forgetting, the great Mahathir himself.

And here we have the old man telling us that Pakatan Harapan ministers need more time as many of them are rookies.

If anything, our country should be soaring to great heights given the “vast expertise” these individuals possess.

Instead, our economy went from excellent to downright bad in no time at all and is now headed straight for the dogs.

Does that not make you wonder if these individuals are looting wealth from the country without anyone knowing anything about it?
