Zeti and Shukri should be held accountable for the RM2.6 billion controversy

Dr Mahathir Mohamad told Reuters yesterday that the Government of Malaysia (GoM) plans to charge Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak on counts of embezzlement and bribery.

However, the Prime Minister told newsmen on the 10^th of October 2015 that he did not have enough evidence to lodge a police report against Najib.

Then, weeks later, he accused Najib of dismissing Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail simply because the former Attorney-General (AG) had enough evidence to incriminate him (Najib). 

So it is highly likely that he lied to Reuters when declaring that the GoM had a case against Najib. 

THE THIRD FORCE

Dr Mahathir Mohamad told Reuters yesterday that the Government of Malaysia (GoM) plans to charge Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak on counts of embezzlement and bribery. According to the Prime Minister, Malaysian investigators “have an almost perfect case” against principal suspects who ‘defrauded’ 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and embezzled billions from the fund. But we’ve been hearing that over and over again since 2014, almost as if Mahathir had enough evidence to throw Najib under the bus before running his remains through steam rollers and turbines.

Well, where is that evidence?

Perhaps what he told newsmen on the 10^th of October 2015 holds a clue. On that day, he admitted that he did not have enough evidence to lodge a police report against Najib (see video below). What this means, is that the allegations he hurled against Najib were based purely on conjectures and hearsay by the Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report. Ironically, that seemed enough for him (then) to demand that Najib stepped down on counts of criminal misfeasance and corruption.

So what does all of this tell you?

Well, it tells you that Mahathir is bent on destroying Najib one way or the other, meaning, he may have lied to Reuters when he declared that the GoM had a case against Najib. And let’s not forget the time he accused Najib of dismissing Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to sweep evidence under the carpet. Not only does that contrast what he told newsmen on the 10^th of October 2015, it reeks of irony, given that he did the exact same thing to Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali a little over two weeks ago.

This goes a long way to show that the Prime Minister’s never-ending pursuits against Najib and 1MDB are fuelled by nothing but hatred and vendetta. If indeed Gani had evidence to prove Najib’s guilt, why has he yet to present that evidence to the Special 1MDB Task Force (STF) he himself was recently made the joint-chief of? Is it not apparent that the former AG fabricated the July 2015 charge sheet to help Mahathir commit democratic thievery?

Pakatan Harapan won the 14^th general election on the promise that Najib would be put under lock and key. Now that the coalition is government, the proper thing for Mahathir to do would be to use Gani’s charge sheet as basis to get a court order against Najib. The Prime Minister could then get Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz to sign a Statutory Declaration (SD) declaring that the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s account was siphoned from 1MDB. The duo could thereafter announce that Pakatan fulfilled its promise to the people of Malaysia.

But how could she?

How could she accuse Najib of stealing money she herself declared was a gift from the Prince of Saudi? On the 11th of June 2018, The Third Force published excerpts of a “Kertas Siasatan Tehapdap Najib Razak” prepared in 2015 by the current head of the MACC, Dato’ Seri Mohd ShukriAbdull. According to the document, it was Zeti who instructed Najib to channel the RM2.6 billion into his personal Ambank account.

So tell me, would she not become an accomplice should the GoM press ahead with charges against Najib?

And let’s not forget Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

On the 14^th of July 2014, the Prime Minister’s own son told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that both his father and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were working in the shadows to topple Najib. Prior to that, Muhyiddin himself conceded to an UMNO Supreme Council sitting that a conspiracy to depose of the Prime Minister of Malaysia existed. Ironically, Shukri initiated the MACC into fresh probes related to 1MDB but has yet to summon either Mukhriz or Muhyiddin for questioning.

Well, what’s keeping him?

Mukhriz aside, why has Shukri yet to even summon Zeti, who, for all intents and purposes, qualifies as a key witness in the whole RM2.6 billion affair? Come to think of it, what was Mahathir even thinking when he appointed Shukri to lead the MACC? Isn’t the Prime Minister implying that Najib twisted Shukri’s arms to conceal evidence from the public? So what is Shukri doing leading investigations into 1MDB?
